What is Construction Management?

Construction Management is the practice and science to plan, coordinate, budget and supervise construction projects from design development to project completion, in accordance with the design and specifications within a given schedule. Projects include all types of public, private, institutional, residential, commercial, and industrial structures, as well as roads, memorials and large infrastructure projects including ports, airfields, power stations etc.

  • Construction estimating involves calculating the quantities and price of labor, materials and time for a specific job, using construction knowledge, including the use of specialized software.
  • All construction operations, including procurement of numerous sub contractors, materials, and supplies, need to be sequenced and put together in a start to finish diagram that shows the minimum time required to complete the project safely and in accordance with the specifications. The schedules prepared are required to be in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Construction project management involves the planning, coordination, financing, and maintaining control over all tasks involved in a construction project. These tasks vary from project to project, and require skills such as strong communication, team building ability, knowledge of the building process, problem solving and completion of milestones required by a specific project schedule.
